“Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union.”  -Frank Lloyd Wright

“What I stand for is what I stand on.”  -Wendell Berry

FORM AND FUNCTION
Real estate development, architecture, and interior design are unique and dynamic fields in that they are equal parts art and science, form and function, beauty and engineering.  This opposing duality, this constant balance, creates a dynamic tension and a dramatic harmony that provide the creative foundation of architecture and design.  Our buildings and designed spaces are not meant to be purely functional or purely aesthetic.  It’s all about the challenge of combining form and function to build buildings and design spaces that are structurally sound, functional for our everyday lives, and inspiring.

SUSTAINABILITY
Real estate development, architecture, and interior design are also unique and dynamic fields in that they define how we live, work, and socialize. There is an inherent challenge and responsibility to design and construct buildings and spaces that not only function for our lives but also enhance the quality of our lives and our environments, by increasing efficiency and by emphasizing sustainability, ultimately creating healthier lifestyles through greater harmony between our built environment and our natural environment. We must live up to that responsibility and continue to push the boundaries of what is possible to construct and engineer sustainably. Sustainable communities and cities anchored by consciously constructed buildings and powered by renewable energy is our collective built future.

Principles of Living Buildings
1.    Harvest their own water and energy needs
2.   Adapt to specific local site and climate
3.   Zero waste and pollution
4.   Promote health and wellbeing of all
5.   Integrate systems to maximize efficiency and comfort
6.   Improve the health and diversity of local ecosystems
7.    Be beautiful and inspire us to higher levels of awareness and action

AI ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN
AI is changing the way we view architecture and interior design. AI imagery is pushing the boundaries of what we can conceive which in turn inspires what we can build. I am fascinated by AI architecture and interior design. Aside from being endlessly creative, it forces the inquisitive mind to flip the traditional approach to design and build, by starting with a rendering and having to reverse design, engineer, and construct it. I welcome this challenge. And I welcome opportunities to work with clients and design professionals to bring innovative and incredible AI designed building and spaces to life.

REAL ESTATE AND PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT
I take a holistic approach to design build and I believe buildings and spaces should fit harmoniously into their environments. Our properties are extensions of our homes and they should be a reflection of our lives and serve to enhance our lives by providing a connection to outdoors and nature. Aside from designing, building, constructing, and decorating our build environments, I love to design properties and to help homeowners experience the full benefit of their property. Including various gardens, flower and food gardens, sports and recreation, swimming and natural pools, woodland trails and follies, labyrinths and outdoor art, as well as practical uses of the land such as wells, ponds, sustainable solar and wind energy, and water reclamation and distribution.

AESTHETIC STYLE
Sustainable, Minimalist, Classical, International Eclectic

I have always considered myself an environmentalist and a lover of nature and the great outdoors, someone who has always wanted to preserve and protect natural environments, and also to design and build incredible architecture and spaces where our natural environments and our built environments coexist in harmony. I am committed to sustainable design and build practices. I am a LEED Associate, I am knowledgeable in WELL and NetZero sustainable development, and I follow the principles of a ‘Living Building’ in my design philosophy. I always aim to use innovative and sustainable design practices whenever possible.  From low impact site plans and designs, to environmentally conscious construction and engineering, to renewable energy and sustainably sourced materials.  Quality architecture and interior design is harmonious within its environments, both its built environment and its natural environment, ultimately fostering a healthy and inspired lifestyle. Real estate development takes on new dimensions when we account for its inherent social and environmental responsibility. I have a desire to modernize and to elevate our built environments to be not only efficiently functional and aesthetically beautiful but also equitable and sustainable as well.

I believe open and uncluttered spaces are healthy, creative, and productive spaces.  I believe the architecture and light of a space must make a statement and create the foundation of the design.  I use a mixture of scale, colors, lighting, and materials to enhance that foundation and to create a dynamic, textured, and layered design to bring a building or space to life.  I love classical symmetry and to play with scale and proportions. I love to fill a space with color and a variety of lighting to moderate the energy and temperature of the space. I love textiles, ceramics, and all hand crafts. I particularly love international, patterned, and woven fabrics, tapestries, and blankets. I believe that any item added to a space must have a function or serve as a point of inspiration or memory. Decorative items must have a connection to the client or the space. All too often they are used arbitrarily to fill space and to define a design that otherwise lacks identity and inspiration.

I have always had a love and appreciation of classical and neo-classical architecture and design. Classical design provides a solid foundation from which to innovate. I love to incorporate classical elements into my designs.  Classical is timeless, not trendy, less about the formality of a design and more about its history and the quality and intention with which it was created. I always aim to combine classical elements of architecture and design with modern and sustainable materials and technologies to construct buildings, spaces, and experiences that both connect us to our past and inspire our future.

I have traveled all across the United States and to a dozen different countries. From Mayan ruins to European palaces to Buddhist temples, I love to experience the built environment firsthand, and I am often influenced by my travels and by world cultures. I am constantly inspired by, and I have great appreciation for, our collective world history of architecture, engineering, and design. And I believe that incorporating international and hand-crafted design elements and items adds a lot of depth and spirit to a space.

A sustainable and minimalist approach to design, full of scale, color and texture, inspired by classical architecture, world travel, and nature.
